The Development of Teeth

Posted .

Teeth are one of the most dependable, toughest parts of the body, and their development is truly incredible. Humans go through two sets of chompers in their lives, baby pearly whites and adult pearly whites. (And three sets if you count false teeth!) Here are a few tidbits we’ve compiled on tooth development.

-Tooth advancement actually begins in children before they are born. The first tooth a child has normally appears when they are six months old, but their pearly whites begin forming in the second and third trimesters of their mother’s pregnancy.

-Though you may have thought it happened in the opposite order, the crown is the first part of the tooth to develop, and roots continue evolving even after the tooth comes in.

-By age 2 or 3, most children will have a full set of 20 teeth. These teeth begin falling out as early as age 6 and as late as age 12.

-Most adults have 32 teeth, and adult teeth come in as soon as the baby teeth begin falling out.

We want you to forever keep the chompers that you currently have. Are you taking appropriate care of them so that they’ll last forever? Part of an awesome dental hygiene routine includes visiting your dentist at least every six months.
